Edward Adamson Robertson and Annie Massey

I have a few pictures here and a couple of anecdotes that I believe represent something of what happened when Edward Adamson Robertson came to Mara.
Ned or Uncle Ned was apparently working as a Ship's Purser on the P & O Liners when his brother John and wife Margaret with 2 year old Robert Turner  and Edward Adamson Jr. (infant) emigrated from Scotland to Canada.
John and family moved to Mara and lived with the Harry Blurton while they purchased the property from Jim Bell which became the John Robertson farm.

Apparently Ned telegraphed to John from New York and said that if there was more property available that he would buy it and so he purchased the 30? acres south of John's property and between the Bell farm and John's farm.

Ned then left the P & O Line and came by train from New York to Mara.

Peg Varchol (yes an older Robertson woman!) has probably a better understanding of how Ned got to Mara.
Quote: "My understanding of Uncle Ned being in Mara is a touch different.  My understanding is that he was on his way to immigrate to Australia by getting a job on the Empress line out of Vanc.  He stopped in to see Grandad and liked it so much he forgot about Australia."
I believe he lived with John and Margaret and family while they had their first home built.

Apparently the builders were brothers who left and went to live on Francois Lake south of Burns Lake after they had built the first home.

Ned soon became acquainted with Annie Massey whose family lived down the river.

This is  a copy of a postcard that I got a copy of in the lead up to their marriage at the church in 1913.
Alice (Macready) Robertson wrote the happy couple a poem on their 50th wedding anniversary and here is a copy for your enjoyment!

July 20, 2011 John Robertson and Margaret Mitchell Turner

Some of the photos from the family album that Ken Robertson showed at the Mara Centennial Reunion.
Feel free to copy what you find important.

Please advise if you know of dates, places, spellings
or other inaccuracies!
This picture may well have been taken before 1900!
Margaret Mitchell Turner's Father.
Possibly a wedding picture?

Again any information to verify or determine a better date would be appreciated!
Was this the church they were married in?
Very well set up and I believe Phyllis has the hat and coat!
A great way to travel!
They were well presented!
I assume this is in June or so!
Robert Turner Robertson was born on April 12, 1905.
Margaret Robertson - the only picture I have of her
and I am not sure where she was working!
Any advice or suggestions are appreciated!

July 15, 16 and 17 Mara Reunion Centennial and Robertson Descendants

This is the start of what we hope to be an interactive blog wherein descendants/relatives/friends of the John, Edward, and Margaret Robertson families can keep track of their history and their family connections.

They came from times past to times present and had a ball!
Alice Robertson seemed to be having a great time at her Great Great Aunt Madge's!

For those who stayed at the Callen's Farm  it was a "Mooving" experience!
Keith and Rita Perry were there!
Madge and Mary Miller enjoyed the new Robertson window!
Grant and Joan brought along some grandkids - Hannah, Ethan and Scott!

Wally and Pat Martz with Mary!

This was the gathering spot on the farm for many of the relatives!

This is what it was well used for!
Robbie Robertson on the left, Ken Robertson in behind and then Nanette Robertson at the back
- Sherrie and Jeanne just kept gabbing
- Jack was at the back
and this Dutch guy named Hugh
kept swinging around the chandeliers all weekend!

Most of the time though it was like this - Eveline, Sherrie, Betty and Fred just visiting!

Madeline Robertson, Mary Miller, Lise and John Robertson with Alice on top were all there!

Stan had his daughter Cara drive out from Fernie!
He stayed in a comfy bed and breakfast
and made her sleep out under the trees!
We Robertsons are real kind to our kids
